 ** MISSION STATEMENT **

The Mission of the Richardson Municipal Court is to provide an accessible legal forum for individuals to have their court matter heard in a fair and efficient manner, while providing a high level of integrity, professionalism and customer service.

** DRESS CODE ENFORCED inside Courtroom**

No Shorts / Skorts.  No Uniforms.  No Tank Tops.  Shoes Required.

While the Court understands Texas Summers are hot, proper attire that conveys respect for court proceedings is required while appearing before the Judge (or Jury) inside the Courtroom. 

Contact Court Personnel if you have questions/concerns about proper attire for your upcoming Court Hearing Appearance.

Please adhere to the following general Rules of Court Conduct and Decorum when appearing in Court:

  • Proper clothing/shoes are required (i.e. business or business casual).
  • NO SHORTS. NO TANK TOPS. Midriffs must be covered. NO PAJAMA tops/bottoms. Pants must fit at the waist, be properly hemmed or cuffed at or below ankle. NO TORN PANTS. and NO INAPPROPRIATE Images / Text / Words.
  • No hats/head coverings are allowed, unless with the Bailiff’s permission.
  • No talking/noises and no reading of newspapers, magazines, or other reading material when court is in session.
  • Turn off/put away cell phones/electronic devices, use of such items is prohibited.
  • Cameras/recording devices are not permitted in the Court building.
  • NO WEAPONS are permitted in the Court building.
  • ALL items (i.e. purses, bags, carry cases and electronic devices, etc.) are subject to inspection.

YOU RECEIVED A CITATION. WHAT CAN YOU DO?

 

The Municipal Court has jurisdiction over Class C Misdemeanors and City Ordinance violations which occur within the corporate city limits and are punishable by fine only.

Failure to Maintain Financial Responsibility (No Insurance):

A second or subsequent conviction of an offense under the Texas motor vehicle safety responsibility act will result in the suspension of your driver’s license and motor vehicle registration unless you file and maintain proof of financial responsibility with the department of public safety for two years from the date of conviction. The department may waive the requirement to file proof of financial responsibility if you file satisfactory evidence with the department showing that at the time this citation was issued, the vehicle was covered by a liability insurance policy or that you were otherwise exempt from the requirements to provide evidence of financial responsibility. 

 

 

YOU MUST WAIT 5 WORKING DAYS FROM THE DAY YOU RECEIVE YOUR CITATION BEFORE THE MUNICIPAL COURT IS ABLE TO PROCESS ANY TRANSACTIONS. THE MUNICIPAL COURT WILL NOT HAVE YOUR CITATION, AND IS UNABLE TO PROCESS ANY TRANSACTION UNTIL THE ORIGINAL CITATION IS RECEIVED IN THE COURT.
