 National Night Out Logo for 2016

  National Night Out, a year-long community building campaign, is designed to: (1) Heighten crime prevention awareness; (2) Generate support for, and participation in, local anti-crime programs; (3) Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships; and (4) Send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.

Along with the traditional outside lights and front porch vigils, most cities and towns celebrate National Night Out with a variety of special citywide and neighborhood events such as block parties, cookouts, parades, festivals, visits from local officials and law enforcement, safety fairs, and youth events.

The City of Richardson will compete in Category 2 (cities with pop. 100,000 - 299,000) for 1st place in the nation to highlight the great Police and community partnership in the fight against crime.

  Saturday, September 17, 2016, 9am to 1pm - Richardson Police Public Safety Expo
411 W. Arapaho Rd. - Richardson Civic Center, Outside - Fountain Area
The Public Safety Expo is a free family friendly event for anyone interested in getting a closer look at police and fire operations as well as learning how to make their home and neighborhood safer. The Public Safety Expo provides an opportunity for an up close look at the various vehicles used by first responders and see demonstrations by some of our operational units. It also helps us to educate the public in a fun and interactive way. The Richardson Police Department Crime Prevention Unit will be available to provide valuable safety information, and discuss volunteer opportunities within the Department. There will also be police and fire vehicles to view, along with a scheduled visit from an air medical helicopter. Event activities will include demonstrations from, K9 and SWAT officers, visits from McGruff the Crime Dog mascot, “Nat” the National Night Out Knight mascot, face painting, a bounce house and more. Refreshments will also be available for purchase. Additionally, representatives from the City of Richardson’s Emergency Management Department, Richardson Fire Department, Home Depot, PHI Air Medical, North Texas Auto Theft Task Force, and more will be on-hand to display safety and security products and materials.

Officers will be out visiting registered parties and collecting can food donations for our "Can Do" project.
Registration deadline is September 18th.
