Property Inventory Program

When a burglar breaks into your home or business they can be in and out in as little as three minutes, carrying your property with them. Stolen property carries with it the ability to lead police back to the scene of the crime, even back to the perpetrators. A comprehensive property inventory list can assist police in recovering your property and solving property crime. Recording your valuables will also provide assistance with the replacement of your property in the event of theft, fire or other catastrophic event.

“Know Your Stuff”, the online property inventory software provided by the Insurance Information Institute is a secure internet storing house for individuals or businesses to record property data. The website is an easy to use database, free to the public, where serial numbers and pictures can be stored and retrieved in the event of a loss. All that is needed to utilize this program is a computer and internet accessibility. To assist City of Richardson residents, the Richardson Police Department has partnered with State Farm Insurance to provide assistance with the registration process. Trained members of the Richardson Police Department are available by appointment to provide a wide range of in-home services; from providing literature on how to setup an account on the Know Your Stuff website, identifying what property to register, photographing your property and completing the registration process.
