The Richardson Fire Department is organized into two (2) divisions: Administration and Operations. The functions of the Fire Department are fire prevention through public education and code enforcement, fire control and extinguishment, hazardous materials response, rescue operations, and emergency medical service. Working together, these divisions ensure the citizens of Richardson quality services delivered in an efficient and effective manner.
Alan Palomba has over 28 years of experience with the department. He started his career in September 1987 as a firefighter and promoted to Driver/Engineer in April 1994. He then progressed through the ranks to Lieutenant in April 1998, Captain in February 1999, and Battalion Chief in November 1999.
In May of 2001, he was named Assistant Chief of Operations and appointed Fire Chief in July 2005. Alan has an associate degree in Civil Engineering and in Fire Science as well as a Bachelor of Arts in Fire Administration and Prevention. He is a graduate of the National Fire Academy Executive Fire Officer Program and currently holds certification as a Master Firefighter, Master Fire Inspector and Intermediate Fire Instructor. He is a member of the International Association of Fire Chiefs, the Texas Fire Chief’s Association, the Dallas County Fire Chief’s Association, the National Fire Academy Alumni Association, and Leadership Richardson Class XIX Alumni.
