The Richardson Fire Department currently has a total of four ambulances. The EMS standard on each response vehicle is Advanced Life Support level. This ensures the highest level of emergency care and support. An EMS Lieutenant on each shift assists the Battalion Chief by handling EMS issues including quality control of reports, training, and support to shift personnel.
When the Fire Department Responds to Your Call
Responding fire department units perform a patient assessment at the scene and provide treatment as necessary, such as controlling bleeding, applying splints or bandages, assist breathing, perform CPR, administer oxygen, start IV’s, administer drugs and defibrillate in cases of cardiac arrest.
All Richardson Fire Department personnel attend monthly continuing medical education classes. These classes cover specific medical conditions, medications, and new techniques. Classes also deal with issues such as medical/legal concerns, communication and documentation, and patient rights.
