New Helmets

Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Have a high school diploma, or a G.E.D. certificate.
  • Hold a Class “C” Driver’s License or higher from Texas Department of Public Safety, or ability to obtain a Texas License before designated hire date if from out of state.

Civil Service Examination:

  • A written examination must be completed with a minimum passing score of 70.
    You must present your driver’s license to gain admittance to the test. (If your driver’s license does not have a picture, you should bring another government issued I.D. to test, along with your driver’s license.)
  • Complete the Physical Performance Assessment.
  • Complete Oral Interviews.
  • Successful completion of Drug Test, Polygraph, and Background Investigation
    (A thorough background investigation is conducted on all applicants. Any misrepresentation or vital omissions on the application will be grounds for rejection, or future dismissal if appointed.)
  • Pass a Physical Examination.

Veterans:

A five (5) point veteran’s preference will be added to passing scores on the written exam.
DD-214 form with an honorable discharge and at least one (1) year active military service must be presented at the time of the written exam to qualify for these preference points.

Work Schedule:

Normal duty week is 56 hours; however, employees may be assigned to other duties that may require an alternate work schedule.
