The indoor and outdoor book deposits at the Richardson Public Library will be unavailable to use as the Library’s new materials handling system is installed through next week. Because of that, Library staff is asking patrons to return materials at a temporary location near the main entrance.
The Library is installing a new radio-frequency identification (RFID) system that will allow users to check out books and other materials at automated kiosks. The system was funded through the 2010 Bond Program and allows the Richardson Public Library to track and sort items electronically as they are checked out and returned. The new system will include two self-service checkout kiosks and four staffed checkout stations that can also function as self-service stations. This system is expected to reduce lines and wait times.
The new checkout kiosks are scheduled to be installed at the end of October.
