Portion of Sherrill Park Neighborhood to Lose Water Service Due to Critical Water Main Repairs
Posted Date: 4/15/2014 9:45 AM

At 1 a.m. Sunday morning, April 27, 2014 Richardson water utility workers will close a 20-inch water main located on Renner Road just east of Plano Road in order to implement critical repairs to a water valve that has failed and is leaking. The valve is located underneath the center lane of Renner Road just east of Plano Road, and will necessitate the closure of two eastbound lanes of traffic. The outage will impact approximately 300 water customers in the area, which is mostly made up of single-family homes and some businesses. Water is anticipated to be turned back on late Sunday afternoon.

Water Main Critical RepairsWater Outage Information
Repairs on the water line are estimated to take approximately 15 hours, which is anticipated to leave water customers in the Sherrill Park neighborhood without service until Sunday evening. The duration of the outage is dependent upon the location of the leak. It is possible that another water main will need to be shut off in order to perform the needed repairs, which would impact an additional 150 water customers in the Sherrill Park neighborhood.

Traffic Impact Information
Two eastbound lanes of Renner Road between Plano Road to Foxboro will be closed beginning Monday, April 21, 2014, as repairs proceed. Road repairs are anticipated to last until Monday, April 28, 2014, but metal plates will be used to allow all lanes of traffic to be open during peak travel times.

Customer Notification
A postcard will be mailed to Richardson water customers in the projected impact area to notify them of the impending outage. City workers will also distribute informational door hangers at homes in the subject area. “Reverse 911” calls will also be made to all registered numbers in the anticipated impact area to inform customers. Informational road signs will be used to inform commuters of traffic impacts.

Recommended Actions
Residential water customers are recommended to fill water bottles and tubs as needed to satisfy short-term water needs. Commercial customers are urged to make any necessary preparations to operate their facilities for the duration of the outage.

The water main repair follows another recent emergency valve replacement that was performed last month in the same general area and is impacting the same neighborhood. The City of Richardson regrets the interruption of service and is working as quickly as possible to make repairs and return normal water service.
