Trash Bash to Take Place April 6
Posted Date: 3/20/2013 2:00 PM

The City Council held a joint meeting with the Environmental Advisory Commission on Monday to discuss EAC goals and projects, including the annual Trash Bash. This year’s event will begin at 9 a.m. Saturday, April 6, and will feature Richardson residents and groups participating in a citywide effort to pick up trash and recyclable items. The event averages 600 people picking up 5,000 pounds of trash and 2,000 pounds of recyclable material on more than 200 acres in Richardson.

In addition to the cleanup, participants are invited to an after-party that runs from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The event will feature an environmental education fair, refreshments and free plants. Free recycling bags and compost courtesy of the Richardson Environmental Action League will also be available.

The Trash Bash will also include electronics and plastic grocery bag recycling and document shredding sponsored by the Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association. These services will be available starting at 9 a.m. at the Civic Center. New events this year include a book drive sponsored by Friends of the Library, a clothing drive to benefit Network of Community Ministries, adoptable pets from the Richardson Animal Shelter, and an activity area for children and families near the City Hall fountain.

A pre-event meeting will take place at 6 p.m. Thursday, April 4, at the Civic Center for participants to receive trash bags, release forms and assignments. Register for the Trash Bash by calling 972-744-4076 or visiting
