Citizens Information Television (CITV) was established in 1985. Its purpose is to provide communications support to all City of Richardson departments. This includes television production, photography, audio services, computer graphics, audio/visual equipment and technical support.
CITV produces promotional, marketing, educational, training, public service, and informational video programs. These programs are used to promote Richardson, train city staff and inform its citizens. Many are available for checkout at the Richardson Public Library and are shown over the City’s public cable channel.
CITV manages two channels, a public channel (Channel 16) carried by Time Warner Cable in Richardson, and the Institutional Cable Network (C-Cable). C-Cable is available to provide training programs for the City’s Fire Service and other city personnel. This network serves city facilities and is not available to the general public.
Each year, CITV creates 30 to 40 video programs in addition to numerous smaller projects. Over the last 10 years, CITV has received more than 90 state, national and international programming awards from professional organizations and has contributed to the award winning efforts of other departments.
