Tree the Town Contest artwork Winners Announced

Winners of Richardson’s Tree the Town artwork contest were named Nov. 21 during a ceremony held at the Eisemann Center. The competition was a result of a crowd sourcing initiative to identify local talent to create the images that can be used in future marketing material for the urban forestry program. The contest offered $3,500 in prize money to persons of all ages thanks to a generous donation by BWC Creative, based in Richardson.

The community-wide event was hosted by the Arts Incubator of Richardson (AIR), in partnership with the “Tree the Town” project, to celebrate the creativity and innovation of area artists, while paying tribute to trees and their intrinsic value. Participants were asked to create a project inspired by the tree planting initiative, in one of the four categories.

The categories included: poster, photography, video and animation. There were 12 prizes awarded in the four categories of competition. First-place winners in the contest received $350 scholarships and second-place winners received $150. The winners of the poster contest received $250 to support their school.

Tree the Town is an urban forestry initiative that targets planting 50,000 trees by the year 2020. Hundreds of trees have been planted so far, bringing aesthetic improvements to several streets and trails in the community. Individuals can also purchase trees on their own and register them through the Tree the Town website to add to the list of plantings.
