Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas, the state's largest health insurer has agreed to serve a second time as a three-year sponsor for the City of Richardson’s Corporate Challenge, which is a first in the competition’s history to have such support by a corporate partner. The announcement was made during this evening’s closing ceremony event at the Richardson Civic Center.
With its state headquarters located in Richardson, Blue Cross Blue Shield has been an integral member of the community, and the Corporate Challenge for many years.
“We are proud of our eight years of participation in the City of Richardson's Corporate Challenge," says Dr. Allan Chernov, a medical director with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas and Challenge company coordinator. "This is a wonderful event that motivates our employees to be physically active while raising money for a great cause, Special Olympics Texas. We really get pumped up every year for our friendly competition with other companies. Also, we are very excited about making a commitment for another three years as the Corporate Challenge Title Sponsor.”
Now in its 16th year, the Corporate Challenge is a 10-week, Olympic-style corporate competition with more than 10,000 employees from companies around the Dallas/Fort Worth area, who take part in athletic and non-athletic events to raise funds in support of Special Olympics Texas and its local affiliate, the Richardson Roadrunners – the event’s beneficiary since its inception.
The Corporate Challenge is produced by the Richardson Parks & Recreation Department. A managing board, made up of a select group of company representatives and City employees, developed the policies and procedures that rule and govern the events.
“We’re extremely thrilled that Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas has committed to sponsor the Corporate Challenge for the next three years,” said Richardson Mayor Laura Maczka. “It is because of companies like theirs, and many others, who have dedicated countless time and resources, that the Corporate Challenge has become so successful over the years."
The Corporate Challenge is the only one of its kind in Texas, and is believed to be one of the three largest multi-day Corporate Challenge events in the U.S. It is celebrated and enjoyed for its ability to not only bring various companies together for friendly competitions, but to also build a community that promotes the spirit of giving.
