This event is part of week-long celebration of CS Education Week (Dec 9-15, 2013). We would like to invite Dallas area families to UT Dallas Campus on Saturday, December 14th to learn what Computer Science is all about & why the children should consider college education in Computer Science. Guests can come any time between 10am to 5pm & spend as little as 1/2 hour to review a few demos, OR you can stay as long as they want to explore all the tools, attend a few talks or complete "An Hour of Code" self-paced tutorial in a CS lab!

Demos (10 am to 5 pm):
We plan to have several stations throughout ECSS building – each one highlighting a learning tool or software application:
Enjoyable Series of Tools to learn programming:

  • Logo
  • Scratch
  • Finch Robots
  • Scribbler Robots
  • Alice
  • JavaScript

Advanced Series of Tools related to programming:

  • Greenfoot IDE – Games & Apps in Java
  • Alice –> Java – Multithreading
  • MIT App Inventor
  • Mindcraft MODs
  • Animation in Maya
  • more!

10 minute talks throughout the day:
9:30 am : Light breakfast & snacks in Foyer area

10:30 am : CS degree is more valuable than ever! – Dr. Gupta
11 am : Workshops, Clubs and Summer Camps for school students – Dr. Veerasamy
11:30 am : CS^2 program – Dr. Page
12 noon : Views of High School CS Teacher
12:30 : Jobs in Mobile App industry – Industry expert
1 pm : Views of High School CS teacher
1:30 pm : Views of CS Freshmen in UT Dallas
2 pm : What degrees/skills high-tech employers need? – Industry expert

An hour of code in CS labs: Participants are welcome to use CS lab to complete "an hour of code" in CS lab.
