The City Council, City staff, community leaders and business leaders celebrated the beginning of construction at the new Alamo Drafthouse Cinema in Richardson with a groundbreaking ceremony today.
The site at the Richardson Heights Shopping Center has been cleared, and construction will begin soon on the new cinema-eatery. The Richardson theater, expected to open in May 2013, will be the Austin-based company’s first location in the Metroplex.
The seven-screen cinema will contain a total of 744 seats and will also house a restaurant/lounge. Alamo Drafthouse shows first-run Hollywood movies, classics and limited release films and is famous for its strict no texting and no talking policy during shows. The seven auditoriums will each be different—the largest will have a 60-foot-wide screen and seating for 255 people, while the smallest will seat 45 people, perfect for private events.
