The City of Richardson Aquatics program began back in the 1950s when the city opened its first city pool. Since then, the program has seen tremendous growth and now maintains five pools, including the newest addition in 2013, the Heights Family Aquatic Center. With the growth of the facilities, the department has also seen an increased number of employment opportunities ranging from lifeguards to swim instructors to pool managers.

Certifications
The City of Richardson requires all lifeguards to have a valid American Red Cross Certification. Swim Instructors and Coaches are preferred to have a Water Safety Instructor Certification but it’s not required. Who can become a lifeguard?
From teens to college students, being a lifeguard is the best summer job. The minimum requirements are:
- Must be at least 15 years old
- Will need parent/guardian signature (under 18)
- Must have a valid lifeguard certification (American Red Cross)
- Must be willing to work a minimum of 20-hours per week throughout the aquatics season (Memorial Day to Labor Day)
- Must have a positive attitude and customer service skills
