WHAT IS A SHORT-TERM RENTAL?

Short-Term Rental (STR) means a residential property that is rented wholly or partly for a fee for a period not longer than 30 consecutive days:

  • Applies to residential property - a single-family dwelling, garage apartment, guest house or a unit in a multi-unit building, including an apartment, condominium, cooperative or timeshare
    • Includes a room within any of the above
  • Does not include a premises that is used for a nonresidential purpose, including an educational, health care, retail, restaurant, banquet space or event center purpose or another similar use, or a bed-and-breakfast or hotel

Registration

  • Annual registration required beginning January 1, 2023
  • Annual non-refundable registration fee of $75 required
    • Annual fee due at the beginning of each calendar year.
  • Must provide list of all owners, operators, and agents including their addresses, e-mail addresses, and current phone numbers
    • Includes partnership information and corporation information if applicable
  • Must provide a 24-hour emergency contact

Required Posted Materials

  • This "Be a Good Neighbor" flyer which has information about:
    • Noise ordinances
      • Examples include noise that interferes with public peace and comfort
        • Loud music, televisions, animals, horns, etc.
    • Parking ordinances
      • Examples include yard parking, overnight on street parking, parking which causes safety issues, etc.
    • Trash ordinances
      • Examples include specific trash and recycling schedules for the STR’s specific address and prohibition of litter
    • Emergency and non-emergency contact information for police, fire, and medical services
    • Instructions for obtaining information about natural or manmade disasters
  • Required Safety Information
    • Owner and agent name and contact information
    • 24-hour emergency contact
    • Floor plan of evacuation routes and exits
    • Location of fire extinguishers and alarms

Registration Revocation

  • Registration can be revoked by the director or designee for severe and/or repeated
    violations of any part of the proposed ordinance or other applicable laws
  • If registration is revoked, the owner/operator will not be eligible to receive another registration on that property for one year.
  • Any revocation can be appealed to the City Manager or designee
