About the Water Division

Since 1965, Richardson has obtained its water supply through a contract with the North Texas Municipal Water District (NTMWD), a quasi-state agency created by the State legislature in 1954.

The NTMWD treats and distributes water from Lake Lavon impoundment reservoir, Lake Chapman, Lake Texoma and New Bonham Reservoir. These water sources will support the projected population of 2 million people through 2030.

Water Quality Report

The City of Richardson employs a Water Quality Technician who facilitates water sampling to meet standards set by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ), and Texas Water Development Board (TWDB).

Richardson Water Utility employees take pride in delivering safe and “superior” quality drinking water to our customers. “Superior,” is the rating of our water system by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ). » Read the Report
