2022-Culture-in-the-CORE-MapIn honor of its globally oriented community, the City of Richardson will celebrate the inaugural Culture in the CORE event on Saturday, June 4 in Downtown Richardson. The free event takes place from 12 – 5 p.m. and will feature a variety of international cuisines and vendors, as well as multicultural dance and music performances.

The community gathering will feature vendors selling treasures from around the globe, a variety of culturally diverse art displays, and musical and dance displays by local groups representing Richardson’s rich array of cultures. Recognized as the “best foodies city” in Texas for its robust range of ethnic cuisines, Richardson will fittingly offer Culture in the CORE attendees an opportunity to sample a world-spanning assortment of food and drink.

Richardson has been specially recognized by the Texas Legislature as the International Business Capital of North Texas, and current estimates are that one of every four Richardson residents was born outside of the U.S. Hundreds of global cultures and countries are represented among Richardson’s residents.

“Our reputation as one of Texas’ most diverse cities and as a truly American ‘melting pot’ makes Richardson the ideal place for gathering to learn about and celebrate our tremendous tapestry of cultures, which are an essential part of our spirited community life,” said Richardson Mayor Paul Voelker. “We look forward to welcoming visitors from across North Texas as we share in this joyous occasion together.”

Free event parking will be available at Texas Street and Kaufman Street, with overflow parking at the Richardson Independent School District (RISD) Administration Building located at 420 South Greenville Avenue. An event bus will provide transportation between the RISD Administration Building and the event from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The event is sponsored by the City of Richardson with the help and assistance of Richardson CORE District Merchants, Artist Uprising, Boho Markets, RISD and the First Baptist Church of Hamilton Park.

Richardson’s CORE District includes the city’s Downtown, along with the Richardson Heights, Interurban, Lockwood and Chinatown areas. The CORE is undergoing major changes with projects ranging from a new public safety campus and public art projects, to roadway and pedestrian improvements along Main Street and Greenville Avenue, and creative adaptive reuse projects in Lockwood. As growth and transformation occurs, this area continues to serve as the eclectic heart of Richardson with independently owned and operated businesses and services.
