The Environmental Advisory Commission (EAC) was created June 9, 2008 to aid the city in developing and improving its environmental efforts.

Created by City ordinance, the EAC shall:
- Act only in an advisory capacity to the City Council concerning strategies and initiatives for improving the quality of the natural environment of the City.
- When requested, make recommendations to the City Council relative to expenditures of City funds for the purpose of promoting and sustaining the natural environment of the City.
- Serve as a review board, when assigned by the City Council, for the funding of proposed programs within the City that are environmentally related and are to be funded from allocations made by the City Council.
- Work with City administrative staff to educate individuals (citizens, students, businesses and civic organizations) about litter awareness and prevention, including special events that are directed to this task.
- Engage in volunteer opportunities to enhance the beautification efforts of the City.
The EAC consists of nine members selected by the City Council. The nine members are Richardson residents and at least one member resides in each of the four City Council districts. Members serve a two-year term but in order to provide for staggered terms, the initial four members who reside in the Council districts are appointed for two-year terms and the remaining five members for one-year terms. All subsequent appointments shall be for two-year terms and members may not serve more than four consecutive two-year terms.
If you are interested in serving on the EAC in the future, you may obtain an application form in the City Secretary's Office at Richardson City Hall, 411 W. Arapaho Rd., Suite 202.
