Community Revitalization Awards
The Richardson City Council created the Community Revitalization Awards to recognize property owners who have enhanced the community by making significant exterior improvements to their properties, which have, in turn, had a positive impact on the surrounding area.
Both residential and non-residential projects are eligible for consideration. Over 320 properties have been recognized since the Program’s inception in 1994. Traditionally, recipients are recognized by the City Council with a reception and award presentation ceremony held in February of each year.
The 2022 Community Revitalization Awards received fifteen (15) nominations with five (5) non-residential and six (6) residential projects receiving recognition.

The 2022 Community Revitalization Awards presentation to the City Council was held during the February 13, 2023, City Council meeting.
Carlson Residence • 1406 Navaho Trail
A Reservation neighborhood home built in 1967 was renovated to add a second story, with new larger windows on the ground floor. Updated landscaping opens up the view to the home from the street and preserves existing trees.
Fletcher Residence • 324 Ridge Crest Drive
A former 2 story Canyon Creek home built in the 1970s was demolished and rebuilt in a modern farmhouse style. New landscaping that preserves established trees and a new entry walk round out the design.
Strain Residence • 1422 N. Cheyenne Drive
A single-story dwelling in the Reservation neighborhood was torn down and replaced with a 2-story transitional home featuring a swing entry garage with distinctive natural wood doors.
Swim Residence • 1217 Mohawk Trail
A Reservation neighborhood home, built in 1964, was renovated to add a second story, along with a two-story side addition that includes a new garage. New landscaping and pavement for the entry walk and driveway round out the project.
Watson Residence • 2208 E. Prairie Creek Drive
The original 1970’s Canyon Creek home was torn down and rebuilt with a new modern home that features a concrete walkway and new landscaping that preserves an existing tree.
Westveld Residence • 508 Canyon Creek Drive
A 1970s, one-story ranch in Canyon Creek was replaced with a 2-story modern home that backs up to the Canyon Creek golf course. New landscape frames the home featuring a short accent wall and new walkways.
513 Interurban • 513 N. Interurban Street
A 1980’s one-story office was given façade enhancements that feature new windows and front door, along with awnings and new lighting.
The Drawing Board • 1900 Jay Ell Drive
This coworking and event space is located within Richardson’s Innovation Quarter. The improvements to the exterior of the 1980’s tilt-wall building include metal paneling with wood accents and new entry steps and an ADA entry ramp.
The Great Outdoors Sub Shop • 2005 Alamo Road
This restaurant with drive through service moved from their previous location on Campbell Road to this new infill location. The project brings activity to what was once an under-utilized parking lot.
LaLaLand • 242 W. Campbell Road
Renovation of a drive-through restaurant built in 1985. The improvements include an updated stucco façade, with a tile room and a new covered patio.
Staycation Coffee •201 S. Texas Street
Transformation a single-family home built in 1945 into a coffee shop with the Downtown CORE district. Improvements include a new front door and an ADA ramp to the entrance. An outdoor seating area was also added to the rear of the property.
