The Operations Section is overseen by an Assistant Chief who is supported by five Battalion Chiefs.  There are three Shift Commanders, a Battalion Chief of EMS and a Battalion Chief of Training and Special Operations.

The Richardson Fire Department operates out of six fire stations equipped with three Quints, three Pumpers, one 100’ Quint/Heavy Rescue, six MICU’s, a Blocking/Traffic Managment apparatus and one Command vehicle strategically located throughout the city. All fire apparatus are staffed with four personnel and all MICU's with two personnel.

All shift personnel are assigned to one of three shifts (A, B or C shift) and operate 48 hours on, 96 hours off shift rotation. Each shift is staffed with:

  • 1 Battalion Chief/Shift Commander
  • 1 Field Incident Technician (Chief’s Aide/Driver, rank of Firefighter)
  • 7 Fire Captains
  • 8 Driver/Engineers
  • 37 Firefighter/Paramedics

This team is responsible for delivering direct emergency services as well as support functions required for the effective delivery of 911 services. These responsibilities include:

  • Fire Suppression 
  • Emergency Medical Response and Transport
  • HazMat Operations 
  • Special Operations: Confined Space, High Angle, Swift Water and Vehicle Rescue 
  • Apparatus and Equipment Maintenance 
  • Mutual Aid and Automatic Assist 
  • Training
  • Tactical Paramedics
