On April 24, 2023 the City of Richardson adopted the 2021 International Fire Code as amended by ordinance 4462. Applicable Forms are available below:

General Information

  • Fire Department Fee Schedule [Effective 08/23/2021]:
    Resolution 21-21 establishes fire prevention fees - affects permits and inspections.
     
  • Fire Code Amendments [Effective 04/24/2023]:
    Ordinance 4462 amends and adopts the 2021 International Fire Code.

Permitting Process:

  • Submit completed applications and supporting documents to FIREPERMITS@COR.GOV with “Permit Application” in the subject line:
    • Submit the original design file saved or printed to .PDF file format. Please do not print and scan the file.
    • Submittals and application should be combined in a single .PDF file.
    • The file should be a maximum size of approximately 10MB at 200 dpi - larger files are typically not necessary.
  • Permit fees can be paid by credit card AFTER Application is approved
    • Call (972) 744-5750.
    • Permit fees are not payable in advance.

Construction Permits:

The following Construction Permits are required unless specifically exempted by the City of Richardson Fire Code:

Access Control Systems:

  • Access Control Systems are permitted through the Building Inspections Department - (972) 744-4180.

Aisle Containment Systems:

Emergency Responder Radio Coverage Systems:

Energy Systems [Battery and Fuel Cell Power Systems]:

Fire Alarm Systems:

Exceptions: [No permit, submittals, or acceptance test required. Appropriate Service Tag is required.]:

  • System Repairs [no modifications].
  • Fewer than 5 notification appliances only are affected.

  • Firmware/software updates, replacing boards of the same model with chips utilizing the same or newer firmware. Or,

  • New supervision of hood suppression system added to existing FACU [FACP] - licensee must be present during hood suppression acceptance testing.

  • Duct Smoke Detectors Policy [updated 05/04/2023]:
    Important information regarding all duct smoke detectors. Includes important installation and testing requirements. 

Fire Sprinkler and Related Systems:

Exception: When the work only affects fewer than twenty (20) sprinklers.

Industrial Ovens:

LP-gas:

  • LP Gas is regulated by the Texas Railroad Commission.

Spraying or Dipping:

  • Spraying and Dipping Systems [rooms, booths, tanks] are permitted through Building Inspections Department [(972) 744-4180].

  • IFC Chapter 24 provides requirements that govern operations where flammable or combustible finishes are applied by spraying, dipping, powder coating or flow-coating processes.

  • Fire protection for spraying or dipping operations - See Automatic Fire-extinguishing Systems or Fire Sprinkler and Related Systems, above.

  • Exhibits and Trade Shows

  • Explosives [includes Pyrotechnics]
  • Liquid- or Gas-fueled Vehicles or Equipment in Assembly Buildings

  • Mobile Food Preparation Vehicles

  • On-demand Mobile Fueling Operations

  • Outdoor Assembly Event

  • Plant Extraction Systems

  • Temporary Membrane Structures and Tents

  • Other Operations when requested by the Fire Code Official
