Frequently Asked Questions

Q. When are property taxes due?

A. Property taxes are billed in October of each year. However, they do not become delinquent until February 1 of the next year. For example, the property taxes for the year 2015 will be billed in October 2015 and will become delinquent on February 1, 2016.

Q. Why doesn’t the City of Richardson offer a homestead exemption?

A. The homestead exemption is mandatory only for school districts. Other taxing entities may choose to adopt an optional exemption. The City of Richardson has not adopted the optional exemption, so none will be reflected on the City's portion of the Collin or Dallas County Tax Statement.

Q. How do I apply for exemptions?
