Home MenuNo More Late Fees!
The Library has discontinued late fees on all of our overdue materials. This means that as long as you don’t lose or damage our materials, you won’t pay overdue fees for anything other than InterLibrary Loans.
How does this work?
- Under the new rules, late fees will no longer be charged, beginning October 1, 2022.
- We’re working with our vendor to erase existing late fees on accounts, but this process may take time and may not be seamless. Check with Circulation to get the specifics on your own account. Some fees, such as lost, damaged, debt collection, or processing fees, will remain on accounts.
- With the change to fine-free, our auto-renewals will change to 3 rounds before the item must be returned to the library. Be sure to closely follow your account and keep track of when items are due. As before, if another patron places your item on hold, you will need to return it sooner. Check your account status anytime with Library ELF.
What happens now when materials are late?
- Under the fine-free rules, when an item is overdue, your account will be temporarily blocked. This means you can no longer check out materials, use digital resources, put items on hold, or use Library computers. But as soon as you return your items, your privileges will be restored.
- When an item is 10 days overdue, your account will be charged the price of the item plus a processing fee. If you’ve lost or damaged the item, you’ll need to pay these fees to restore your account. But if you return the materials in good condition, the fees will be removed and your privileges will be reinstated.
- InterLibrary Loan late fees will still be assessed at $1 per day. Since these items are owned by other libraries, we need to ensure their materials are returned promptly.
