Walking is one of the easiest, most accessible, and beneficial forms of exercise. It has numerous health benefits, easy to get started and can be done by people of all ages. Walking can also be used both as a transportation method or exercise.
We use the term walking in an inclusive way including the use of mobility aids. Nonetheless we recognize that some people who use wheeled mobility aids, for example a wheelchair or mobility scooter user, may not identify with the term walking and may prefer to use the term rolling. We therefore use the terms walking and rolling together to ensure we are as inclusive as possible
As identified in the Active Transportation Plan, the City of Richardson supports walking and rolling as safe, easy and convenient travel options for all ages and abilities by working to build a connected network of sidewalks, paths, and trails. The City of Richardson has over 100 miles of trails and over 600 miles of sidewalks available making nearly all of the city reachable by walking or rolling.
Around the City of Richardson, you will also see multiple crossing safety interventions such as signalized intersections, crosswalks, signed mid-block crossings and Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacon (RRFB) mid-block crossings.
Visit the Parks and Trails page to see the different parks and trails around Richardson available for walking.
