Dan Barrios was elected to represent City Council Place 3 in May 2023. Barrios’ service prior to his time in elected office includes participation with various nonprofits and community organizations. He is an alumnus of Richardson CARES, INSIDE RISD, Richardson Citizen Police Academy, Leadership First, Together Richardson, Legislative Chair for the RISD Council of PTAs Board, and served as a Commissioner for the Dallas County Historical Commission. Recently, Barrios was a part of the Indigenous American Art Community Work Group that helped redesign the Indigenous Art exhibit at the Dallas Museum of Art.
Barrios and his family are active members at First United Methodist Church Richardson, where he has served in various ministries such as Body & Soul (homelessness), SPAN (Single Parent Action Network), Church & Society Committee, Leadership First Committee, and Kairos, where he serves as a Texas Department of Criminal Justice prison volunteer. Barrios served the American Red Cross for over a decade in various local and national leadership roles as a volunteer such as Shelter Manager, Instructor, and Volunteer Partner to the National Director on the Volunteer Intake Processing Center.
He is a business teacher at Lake Highlands High School in RISD, and an Adjunct Business Professor at Trinity Valley Community College, where he has taught management and organizational behavior. In 2022, he was recognized by the Mountain Plains Business Education Association (MPBEA) as the recipient of the 2022 Outstanding Contributions to Business Education by a Secondary Rookie Teacher of the Year Award. Prior to entering education, Barrios was a sales executive in the food and beverage industry, where he built regional and national sales teams and grew key accounts with some of the world’s largest retailers.
Barrios has lived in Richardson and Place 3 since 2008 with his wife, son, mother, and dog. He is a graduate from Hanna High School in Brownsville, TX and earned his MBA in Strategic Management from the University of North Texas.
