Richardson provides Recycling and Waste Management on regular trash collection days. Richardson's recycling program accepts a wide array of recyclables. For paints, stains, solvents, adhesives, pool chemicals and other home related chemicals, Richardson residents can use the Dallas Area Home Chemical Collection Center.

For yard debris, the City offers Brush and Bulky Item Collection (BABIC) program. For every 100 cubic yards taken to be composted, Richardson obtains 10 tons of bulk compost in return. This rich compost is used for parks, the Sherrill Park golf course and road medians as needed for repairs or soil enrichment.

Texas Recycles Computers Program

Texans are able to recycle unwanted personal computers for free! Since 2008, computer manufacturers are responsible for recycling the following:

• Desktop and laptop computers
• Monitors (display devices without a tuner)
• The accompanying keyboard and mouse made by the same manufacturer

Texas Pure Partnership
The City of Richardson has a partnership with Texas Pure to provide regional mulch and compost for purchase to residents at a very reasonable price, and is actually discounted for residents living in the 5 member cities (Richardson, Plano, Allen, McKinney, and Frisco). Illegal Dumping
Dumping trash in unauthorized locations is a crime. It is illegal to dump, throw or place any garbage, rubbish, refuse, junk, ashes, filth, wastepaper, rock or other waste matter of whatever kind in or on any public street, alley or other public property. Costs for clean-up can run into the thousands or even millions of dollars, and sites that are not cleaned up can lead to a number of health and safety concerns. Illegal dumping has negative economic impacts and harms plants and wildlife. It can also foster a negative image of the community.
