The MLK Essay Contest and Black History Month Art Contest are open to all students living in the city of Richardson or who live outside Richardson but attend a school located in the city of Richardson. RISD submissions will be judged separately for district recognition in RISD.

For the essay contest, please upload a PDF of your essay. Make sure that the PDF you are trying to upload is saved on your computer’s desktop and not in something like Google Drive. If that doesn’t work, please contact RichardsonToday@cor.gov for assistance.

During the submission process, there are fields to enter parent or legal guardian information in order to provide consent. If you have one child submitting work, a parent can enter their e-mail address as the login, otherwise, please enter the e-mail address of the student.

No, any e-mail address will work.

No cover sheet is necessary when submitting through the online portal. The questions asked throughout the submission process provide enough information.

Each participant can enter one art AND one essay submission.
