About Service
Recyclables are collected by the City and taken to a local materials recovery facility for processing. Each household is provided with recycling collection service one day each week. This collection will occur on the same days designated for regular trash collection. Enter your address in Collection Schedule to find your recycle collection day.

Collection Schedule

Collection Point
In most cases, trash is collected in the alley behind the home where the property line meets the alley. The primary exception to that method is on streets with unpaved alleys. For homes on these streets, collection occurs at the front curb. In front curb collection, bags should be set out on the parkway (the grassy area between the sidewalk and the curb). City Solid Waste crews will only collect bagged trash and/or 1 cubic foot of loose trash, such as twigs or small appliance boxes, that is easily accessible. The City of Richardson does not use any type of receptacle and crews do not retrieve bagged trash out of them.

Set-out Time
City Ordinance requires that regular trash be set out at the collection point by 7 a.m. on the regular trash collection day. City Ordinance also prohibits residents from allowing regular trash bags to be set or left out on days other than designated collection days.

Note: Solid Waste crews are NOT allowed to collect any trash bag that weighs more than 50 pounds. In the case of bulky or heavy trash, the resident must call or make an Online Request for a special collection.

Trash Bags
You may purchase black bags from the City because these bags meet code requirements. Regardless of where the bags are purchased, the City recommends black or dark-colored bags that are 2 mils in thickness, to ensure proper collection.

Recycling Blue Bags
Because the City of Richardson is a "Bag City" and not a "Trash Can Receptacle City", the City offers its residents the opportunity to inexpensively buy trash and recycling bags that meet City code requirements. Find Locations
