Richardson City Council Member Mark Solomon is serving as the 2013 Chairman of the Annual RISD Spirit Run. A 5K and a one- mile Fun Run will take place on Saturday, November 9, 2013, at Galatyn Park, 2300 North Central Expressway in Richardson, Texas. Participants can register at RISDspiritrun.com, or day of the race registration opens at 7:00 a.m. The Fun Run kicks off at 8:00AM and the 5K starts at 8:30AM.

The RISD Spirit Run is named for the Spirit Stops to cheer on runners along the way, made up of student groups from the four RISD high schools- Berkner, Richardson, Pearce and Lake Highlands. High school drum-lines, cheerleaders and bands will provide entertainment and support as runners go past. The best Spirit Stop is selected by runner votes and the winning high school receives the Spirit Run Trophy to display for one year in the school. A certified course, it is touted by runners as one of the best courses and “most fun” 5Ks in the area.

“I am delighted to chair this outstanding race made up of students, teachers, administrators, elected officials and community members,” said Councilman Solomon. “It is a chance to share and recognize the three Mayors of the cities that house RISD - Richardson, Garland, and Dallas -all of whom serve as Honorary Chairs of the event. It’s also a great opportunity to support the Excellence in Education Foundation and our superior RISD Schools. Come out, join us, and have a great morning of fun and entertainment!”

The Honorable Laura Maczka, the Mayor of Richardson, a runner and parent of RISD students, will lead the runners in the 5K. Ted and Karen Ellis of Ellis Island will provide entertainment on the Plaza along with food from various vendors, and the presentation of medals and awards.
