In May 1997, the Richardson Fire and Police Departments joined forces in establishing the Tactical Medic Team. This team of Firefighter / Paramedics give medical, fire and special operational support to the Richardson Police Department's SWAT Unit.

Each member has undergone a strenuous selection process. After being assigned to the team, all members are sent to a basic SWAT school and Tactical Medic courses provided throughout the country.

The Tactical Medic Team trains with the SWAT unit eight to sixteen hours a month in addition to special training sessions held throughout the year. The Team responds with the SWAT Unit on all mission and training events.
